Toni Kroos celebrates

2014 FIFA World Cup

Semi-final

Teams: Brazil 1-7 Germany

Date: 08 July 2014

Venue: Estadio Mineirao

It was carnage at the Estadio Mineirao on Tuesday in the first 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final as Germany thumped Brazil 7-1.

It will be a game the host nation will quickly want to forget, but one many will remember forever as the day a World football power was brought to its knees.

We witnessed unbelievable scenes in the first half with five goals in the space of 18 minutes, handing Germany their first World Cup final since 2002 where they lost to Brazil.

The Germans exacted sweet revenge as they capitalised on horrible defending from the Brazilians with deadly finishing in front of goal.

Thomas Muller opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he volleyed home a corner-kick from 14-yards out under no pressure, 1-0.

Roughly ten minutes later Miroslav Klose doubled his side's lead to become the record holder for the most World Cup goals with 16.

In the 24th minute Toni Kroos virtually wrapped up the match with Germanys' third after a fine left-footed strike from the edge of the box, 3-0.

Kroos grabbed his second goal and his country's fourth a minute later when he concluded a swift counter-attack with a calm finish, 4-0.

The icing on the cake for Germany was their fifth goal in the 29th minute as Sami Khedira finished off another clinical passing move, 5-0.

Brazil welcomed the half time whistle and the sanctuary of their dressing room as the fans booed their exit.

The start of the second 45 saw Brazil do all the attacking, but on two occasions in particular, in the 52nd and 54th minute, both Oscar and Paulinho were superbly denied by Manuel Neuer in one-on-one situations.

After that, however, the fighting spirit of the Brazilians died out a bit and Germany rubbed salt into their wounds with a sixth goal after Andre Schurrle turned home a left-wing cross in the 69th minute, equalling their worst ever loss to Uruguay in 1920.

Schurrle then handed Brazil their worst football memory in history with his side's seventh goal ten minutes later, scoring his second of the match with a shot from an acute angle on the left, 7-0.

Oscar did find some consolation with his side's only goal in the 90th minute of the match to see it end 7-1.
