When Alves joined Barca in 2008, the Brazilian was handed the No.2 jersey, and after Eric Abidal left in 2013, the Brazilian opted to change his kit number to 22 – the Frenchman's former number.
It's well known Alves and Abidal were close friends, with the former France international going on record as saying the right back offered him his liver when he was struck down by a disease of that organ.
Alves wore his former teammate's jersey number up until last season, but the former Sevilla player has now changed his kit number again, this time to six, Xavi's former Barcelona jersey number.
It's believed Alves took the Spaniard's number in order to honour the legend's service at the club.
Xavi won every trophy he competed for in his time with the Spanish giants, and Alves jumped at the opportunity to wear his old number.
