When Baroka FC got promoted to the Premier Soccer League a few months ago, Tshepo Matete (popularly known as a YouTube sensation) got all the attention.
The spotlight shone on the dribbling wizard and he was showered with praises from all football fans across the country. You couldn't hear anything about Baroka without the name 'Skhwama' being thrown around. Skhwama became Bakgaga's Poster Boy to such an extent that a R15 million price tag was put on his head.
Skhwama was tipped to set the PSL scene ablaze, but so far this season he's nowhere to be found. The YouTube sensation hasn't even scratched the surface in the elite league, let alone making his mark. It can be said that, in most cases, he's came on as a late substitute for the newly-promoted outfit, and that's if he's even made the bench to start with.
It's believed the 25-year old is out injured, but it's also suggested that the controversy of his former club is haunting him too. It was believed Skhwama never had a professional club before, but later it emerged that was not the case at all. But whatever it is that's holding him up, you may think Skhwama was just hyped up for nothing.
He's highly gifted, but it appears he could do better as a freestyle footballer than a professional one. May it's too harsh on him, maybe not.
With all the attention Matete got at the beginning of the season, do you think he deserved the spotlight or was he just hyped up for nothing?
