Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos, has been named the World's Best Playmaker in 2014 by the International Federation of Football History Statistics.
Kroos won a closely contested battle against Lionel Messi by a mere two points, while teammate James Rodriguez came third.
'Messi Has Never Lowered His Standards'
According to the IFFHS website, the German picked up 110 points, while the Argentine scored 108 and the Colombian only picked up 53 points.
The German won the accolade thanks to his performances for clubs and country, and it was the first time in six years a Barcelona player hadn't won the title.
The 24-year-old had a fantastic season with German giants Bayern Munich, followed up by a brilliant World Cup display and near perfect start to his Real Madrid career.
In the top 10, we saw the likes of Anders Iniesta (fourth), Yaya Toure (fifth), Bastian Schweinsteiger (sixth), Neymar and Luka Modric (seventh/eighth, tied on points), Eden Hazard (ninth) and Ivan Rakatic (tenth).
Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo was also recognised by the IFFHS earlier this month, when he was named the World's Best Goalscorer for 2014.
Players that have won the World's Best Playmaker award the most are Xavi Hernandez (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) and Andrès Iniesta (2012, 2013).
