Spanish Super Cup - First Leg Result: Athletic 4-0 Barcelona Date: 14 August 2015 Venue: San Mames Barria Athletic Bilbao thoroughly outplayed Barcelona in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Friday night, thrashing the La Liga champions 4-0. San Jose opened the scoring in the 13th minute with an audacious half volley. Ter Stegen came far out of his area to send a clearing header up the field and the Spain international responded with a 45-yard shot over the keeper and into the Barcelona net. Five minutes into the second half, the Catalans came close to levelling matters as Pedro hit the bar after a few mistakes in the Athletic defence. The hosts doubled their lead in the 53rd minute when a mistake from Sergio Roberto gave Sabin the chance to cross from the byline and find Aritz Aduriz Zubeldia, who headed home. The Catalans found themselves three goals behind just after the hour mark. More poor defending from Barca resulted in a second goal for Aduriz Zubeldia who thumped the ball into the back of the net following a cross. Barca's night went from bad to worse in the 67th minute as Dani Alves dived into a Bilbao player during a corner kick, with the ball nowhere near him. It resulted in a penalty for Bilbao, which Aduriz Zubeldia netted to complete his hat-trick and give the hosts a 4-0 lead. Lionel Messi wasn't himself on the night and struggled to create chances while Luis Suarez also failed to trouble the Athletic defence.
