Spanish La Liga
Result: Celta Vigo 0-1 Atletico Madrid
Date: 22 October 2017
Venue: Balaídos
Kevin Gamiero's first-half strike was enough to hand Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Sunday evening.
Atletico dominated the opening exchanges, although they failed to carve out any clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes.
The game's first chance fell to Atletico in the 26th minute but goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez did well to deny Antoine Griezmann at the near post.
Two minutes later, Atletico broke the deadlock as Sergi Gomez's poor clearance fell to Gameiro, who slotted home from close range.
Celta Vigo, meanwhile, found it tough to break down the Atletico defence as they went into the break trailing.
The home side went close to leveling matters in the 52nd minute but Atletico shot-stopper Jan Oblak produced a fine save to deny Iago Aspas.
The woodwork came to Atletico's rescue eight minutes later when Aspas rattled the crossbar from a free-kick.
Celta continued to threaten and they went close once again on 77 minutes but Juanfran popped up with a timely block to deny Sisto a certain goal.
Oblak ensured Los Rojiblancos left Balaídos with three points after he pulled off a fine stop to keep out Hugo Mallo's curling effort as the score remained 1-0 at the full-time whistle.
