Spanish La Liga

Full Time: Barcelona 3-2 Villarreal

Date: 01 February 2015

Venue: Camp Nou

Barcelona had to come from behind twice to eventually run out 3-2 winners over Villarreal in a Spanish La Liga match at the Nou Camp on Sunday night.

It was a quiet start to the match but it soon burst into life when Denis Cheryshev gave the away team the lead on the half hour mark after swift counter-attack concluded with the Villarreal man finding the back of the net, 1-0.

Barcelona fought their way back into the game managed to find an equaliser just before the break when Neymar was quickest to respond to a parried saved by Sergio Asenjo and tap the ball home, 1-1.

Seven minutes into the second half Luciano Vietto gave Villarreal the lead once more after another counter-attack resulted in him turning a low cross from Giovani do Santos into the goal, 2-1.

Their lead only lasted a minute, though, as Rafinha was on the end of a headed pass from Lionel Messi and he finished with aplomb, 2-2.

In the 55th minute Barcelona took the lead for the first time in the game when Messi curled a right-footed shot from 20-yards into the corner of the net, 3-2.

That proved to be the winning goal as Barcelona shut up shop at the back to claim the three points.

The win moves Barcelona to 47 points which is within one point of La Liga leaders Real Madrid while Villarreal sit in sixth place on 38 points.
