The two giants of international football met in their final Group F encounter in Budapest, Hungary, where three penalties were awarded and four goals were scored.

Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the 31st minute from the penalty spot, but the teams went into the break level as Karim Benzema converted a penalty-kick of his own two minutes into added time in the first half.

Didier Deschamps' men then went ahead just after the match resumed, with Benzema scoring his second of the night after an incredible through-ball from Paul Pogba. Ronaldo then completed his brace 15 minutes into the second half with yet another spot-kick to make the score 2-2, which is how the match ended.

While celebrating his second goal, the 36-year-old Portugal captain was targeted by fans who seemingly attempted to throw bottles and cups at him, with even a Coca-Cola bottle being flung in his direction.

This comes after the Juventus forward caused a stir during a recent press conference when he removed some Coke bottles that had been placed in front of him, before he urged the public, perhaps jokingly, to drink water instead.

Ronaldo Linked With £17m Contract

UEFA released a statement alluding to Ronaldo's actions, which were also mimicked by some other high-profile footballers, reminding players and teams that "sponsors are essential for the realisation of the tournament and to ensure the development of football throughout Europe, including for young people and women".
