Mamelodi Sundowns' dominance in the Premier Soccer league has made many question the seriousness of competition from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, but Jabulani Mendu explains why it's hard to stop the Brazilians.
Sundowns are on course to defend their league title yet again and have already advanced to the CAF champions league quarter-finals with two group matches to spare.
Mendu feels it's not only about Chiefs and Pirates, as all the top-flight teams need to operate in the same level as the Brazilians.
"Firstly I would say it is not lack of competition from Chiefs and Pirates but upgrading the operation level of other PSL teams to Sundowns level," Mendu told the Siya crew.
Despite the flurry of signings before the start of the season, the former Swallows midfielder feels Pirates are still not on Sundowns' level.
"Pirates has made some great signings of South African and African talents. As a club they need to compete with Sundowns on all spaces"
"In Development, ABC, MDC as well as hiring good coaches, Scouts and personnel for their structures. European personnel in our big clubs only last 2-3 seasons if we lucky five maximum and then gone.
"They don't stay long enough to build the club into competing regularly at the highest level. Look at how long Sundowns technical team has been around? Ncikazi at Arrows? Kaitano at SSU? These are performing clubs currently who are stable"
