The Danes have reached the last four of the tournament for the first time since they won it in 1992, but they will now go up against the Three Lions, who thrashed Ukraine in the previous round.

A number of English supporters have used the "Football's Coming Home" chant that began in 1996 when they reached the semi-finals of the continental competition, only to lose to Germany on penalties.

The Danish shot-stopper, who plays in England for Leicester City, was asked about football "coming home" ahead of the semi-final, and he seemingly could not resist a little dig at his opponents.

"Has it ever been home? I don't know, have you ever won it? Was that not the World Cup in 1966?" Schmeichel said, as per Sky Sports.

"To be honest, I haven't given any thought to what it would mean to stop England more than what it would do for Denmark.

"To be honest, I've focused very little on the England national team. It doesn't really mean anything to me.

"It's what it would do for our country back home. The joy it would bring to a country of only five-and-a-half million to be able to do something like that, or compete with the nations we're competing with.

"So, yeah, not really a lot of thought to England's feelings in this."
