FC Barcelona defender Gerrard Pique has praised long time teammate Lionel Messi and insists that success hasn't made him arrogant, as many have claimed through the years.

The two met at Barcelona's La Masia academy back when they were kids and it's said that Pique use to look after Messi when on the pitch.
When asked if Messi still needs protection when on the park these days or if he has changed in anyway, Pique laughed and opened up about his friend.
"Lionel can take care of himself! Do you see how many challenges he overcomes every single match? He never complains, just gets on with being the best player in the world."
"I knew from the first time I saw him play that he was from a different planet. I believe that he's the best player in the history of football.
"Maybe what's even more impressive is that he hasn't changed as a person – he's still the same quietly confident, polite and humble guy that he was when we were kids."
