EURO 2020 Last 16 Wrap:

Italy 2-1 Austria

Italy booked their spot in the quarter-finals of EURO 202 after edging Austria 2-1 in extra-time on Saturday evening.

Nicolo Barella came close to giving Italy the lead in the 17th minute with a first-time strike with the outside of his boot from Leonardo Spinazzola's cross but his effort was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.

Mancini's charges were patient on the ball, bur Immobile was unlucky not to give them the lead in the 32nd minute with a looping strike from outside the box that came off the top post.

After that Gli Azzurri were not finding joy in the last third in the closing phase of the first stanza despite pinning back Franco Foda's men in their own half.

Austria were a different side coming from the break, as David Alaba came close to breaking the deadlock for them six minutes inside the second stanza with a free-kick just outside the box that missed the top corner.

Marko Arnautovic thought he had put Foda's troops ahead in the 65th minute after guiding home Alaba's headed pass at the back post but the goal was disallowed for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

With the game was getting tight in the closing stages, Italy made a double attacking change in the last six minutes, as Andrea Belotti replaced Immobile and Federico Chiesa came on for Berardi but Austria stood their ground, with the sides going to extra-time after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Chiesa finally broke the deadlock in the fifth minute of extra-time with a close-range volley at the back post after beating his marker from a cross by Spinazzola.

Pessina then doubled the lead for Mancini's troops in the second with a left-footed strike across goal inside the box after a through ball by Francesco Acerbi.

Austria set up a nervy final few minutes when Sasa Kalajdzic pulled a goal back six minutes before time with a diving header from a tight angle at the near post from a corner.

However, Italy held on to book their spot in the quarter-finals.

Wales 0-4 Denmark

Denmark became the first side to qualify for the EURO 2020 quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Wales on Saturday evening.

Wales recalled Ben Davies, Mepham and Kiefer Moore from the 1-0 loss to Italy, while Kasper Dolberg replaced the injured Yussuf Poulsen for the Danes.

The game was played at a lively pace in the early stages of the encounter, although clear-cut chances were hard to come by in the opening 20 minutes.

Dolberg was eager to repay the faith and he broke the deadlock on 27 minutes after cutting inside before curling the ball into the far corner from distance.

While Wales were struggling to create chances, they were forced into a change six minutes before the break as Connor Roberts was forced off with an injury and replaced by Nico Williams.

The Danes came out for the second half with an attacking intent as they doubled their lead two minutes after the break when Williams' poor clearance landed at the feet of Dolberg, who blasted home from close range.

Wales had a chance to level matters after the hour mark when Williams sent a teasing cross into the box, but Bale was unable to steer his header on target.

The Welsh pushed for a way back into the encounter but were unable to trouble Kasper Schmeichel, while they did manage to add a third goal moments later when Joakim Pedersen cut inside and rifled home a left-footed shot to seal the win.

It got worse for Wales on 90 minutes when second-half substitute Harry Wilson was shown a straight red card for a dangerous lunge, before Martin Braithwaite added a fourth goal in second-half stoppage time.
