Euro 2016 Report: Northern Ireland v Germany 21 June 2016

Euro 2016 Result: Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany Date: 21 June 2016 Venue: Parc des Princes Germany edged out Northern Ireland 1-0 in their final Group C clash to claim top spot over second-placed Poland. Germany had the early chance when Mesut Ozil slipped a pass through for Mario Gotze but his shot was well saved by Michael McGovern who parries the ball towards Joshua Kimmich to dink over the crossbar. Gomez got himself on the scoresheet in the 29th minute to Germany the advantage. Thomas Muller teed up the Fiorentina striker who lashed home a strong strike. Muller almost had a goal of his own in the 35th minute when he directed a pass onto the Irish woodwork. Shortly thereafter Germany attacked via a corner kick which Sami Khedira and Gomez were unable to get over the line. Die Mannschaft took their slender lead into the half-time break after enjoying the upper hand in the first stanza. Gotze was in the thick of the action again after the interval as he pounced on a low cross at the near post, only to send it narrowly wide of the target. Germany remained in control of proceedings and always looked more likely to score than Northern Ireland, but in the end had to settle for a 1-0 victory.
