Sancho enjoyed a productive 2020/21 season with Dortmund, notching up 16 goals and 20 assists across all competitions, but is yet to make an appearance for the Three Lions at Euro 2020.
The 21-year-old was left out of the squad for England's opening game of the tournament against Croatia, and was also an unused substitute in their goalless draw with Scotland on Friday night,.
Southgate has since explained his reasoning as to why the winger has not yet featured.
"We've got some explosive options, and a lot of them are young players and experiencing a big tournament for the first time," Southgate said, as per the Daily Mirror.
"So, as a coaching staff, we are realistic about our expectations of them as individuals. Jadon is in that mix. He's trained well the last few days and, of course, we have got those options and those decisions to make."
The Three Lions are currently second in Group D, and a win over Czech Republic this week will cement their spot in the last 16.
Southgate also defended his captain Harry Kane's form at the tournament to date, following two underwhelming performances from the striker.
"He's our most important player," the England boss added.
"He's fundamental not only because of the goals he scores, but with everything else he brings to the team."
