Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has given an assessment of his side's opening DStv Premiership clash which ended in a goalless draw, and he was quite blunt about where they fell short.
Amakhosi took on TS Galaxy away in Nelspruit and struggled to break down the low block by Owen da Gama's men.
"I didn't think we got off to a flying start, it was a careful one – but obviously not part of the plan. I think it was a very physical encounter, no quarter asked and no quarter given," Baxter told the media.
"I thought we had a better patch where we started playing better around their half and had better build up play. In the second half we changed Samir (Nurkovic) for Keagan (Dolly) and initially that looked good. But that sort of faulted because of the lack of quality. I've told the players that it was a frustrating game – a lack of missed opportunities, I don't mean missed goal chances but missed opportunities to set up good attacks."
The decision-making, Baxter argued, was what let Chiefs down.
"It was either someone took too many touches or we made a poor decision, played backwards instead of forward or just made a technical error. If we had raised our game 10 percent in certain areas, then I think we would have had a chance," the coach explained.
"We didn't show the quality, so I think it was going to be a mistake or a set play that was going to win the game. As it turns out I think 0-0 was a fair result."
Chiefs return to action on Wednesday when they host Baroka at FNB Stadium, a match that will be Baxter's second homecoming, albeit without fans.
