Suarez: Why I Won't Apologise For Ghana Handball

Suarez: Why I Won't Apologise For Ghana Handball

Uruguay legend Luis Suarez has revealed why he refuses to apologise for his infamous handball against Ghana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

FIFA Confirms Senegal Investigation Ahead Of England Clash

In 2010, the then-Liverpool striker received his marching orders after he intentionally stopped the ball from going over the line during a World Cup quarter-final clash against the Black Stars, before the African nation crashed out of the showpiece.

To this day, many football watchers in Africa have a bitter taste in their mouths towards the former Barcelona No. 9, who will be in contention to go up against Ghana in Uruguay's final Group H game of this year's edition of the global showpiece.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Suarez explained that he believes there is still no reason for him to have to apologise considering he was immediately punished for his actions 12 years ago.

"The first time, I don't apologise about that," he said, according to reporters.

"I take the handball but the Ghana player miss a penalty, not me.

"Maybe I apologise if I injure a player but in this situation, I take a red card, the ref say penalty, it's not my fault."
