England Suffer Shock Loss To Greece

England Suffer Shock Loss To Greece

England 1-2 Greece

England's perfect start in League B2 came to an end after a shock 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley Stadium.

The Three Lions were without captain Harry Kane and that meant they lined-up without a natural number nine, as Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden occupied the forward roles alongside Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon on either wing.

Lee Carsley's charges had a nervy start as they nearly went behind early in the first stanza after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a howler of a punch from a corner and Konstantinos Mavropanos capitalized and nodded home what he thought was the opener but the goal was disallowed for a foul.

Although England had their own chances, Vangelis Pavlidis broke the deadlock for Greece four minutes into the second stanza with a strike inside the box from a solo run.

It was only with three minutes left that Bellingham levelled matters for the Three Lions with a bending strike after a through ball by Cole Palmer.

However, Pavlidis snatched the winner for the visitors deep in stoppage time with a close-range shot from a rebound after England could not clear their lines.

Israel 1-4 France

France won back-to-back games in League A2 for the first time after hammering Israel 4-1 at Bozsik Arena.

After the international retirement of Antoine Griezmann, Les Bleus were also without skipper Kylian Mbappe and the attacking responsibilities fell to striker Randal Kolo Muani, who was supported by Ousmane Dembele, Christopher Nkunku and Michael Olise.

France went ahead with only six minutes on the clock, fortuitously, after goalkeeper Omri Glazer made a howler and misjudged a bouncing shot from Eduardo Camavinga.

Israel levelled matters on 24 minutes after Omri Gandelman connected well with a cross and guided his close-range header that went in off the post.

However, Didier Deschamps' troops restored their lead four minutes later after Nkunku fired home an unstoppable shot in the box after he was released by Camavinga.

It was only with three minutes to go that France were comfortable after Matteo Guendouzi made it 3-1 with a curling shot after a square pass by Theo Hernandez.

Two minutes later, Bradley Barcola rounded off the thrashing for Les Bleus with almost a similar goal after he was teed up by Guendouzi.

Italy 2-2 Belgium

Ten-man Italy's perfect start was halted after they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Belgium at Stadio Olimpico.

The Red Devils were without Kevin De Bruyne, who joined Romelu Lukaku and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the absence list.

The Azzurri had a quick start after Andrea Cambiaso gave them the lead in the first minute after a through ball in the box.

Mateo Retegui doubled the lead for Italy on 24 minutes with a strike from a rebound.

However, Luciano Spalletti's troops were down to ten men seven minutes before the interval after Lorenzo Pellegrini had a yellow card upgraded by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to red for a late challenge.

Belgium eventually pulled a goal back five minutes later through Maxim De Cuyper, who was setup by Leandro Trossard.

Norway 3-0 Slovenia

Norway climbed up to the top of League B3 after a resounding 3-0 win over Slovenia at Uilevaal Stadium.

Erling Haaland gave Norway an early lead and Alexander Sorloth doubled their lead early in the second stanza.

The Manchester City striker put the game to bed for The Lions and completed his brace just after the hour-mark.
