The Bayern Munich forward has voiced his frustration over the high number of withdrawals from the England squad this week, insisting that the national team should always come first.

The Euro 2024 runners-up are set to travel to Greece for a crucial Nations League clash on Thursday, before returning to Wembley for a meeting with Ireland on Sunday. However, interim manager Lee Carsley's final camp before Thomas Tuchel takes over has been marred by eight pull-outs.

The situation has frustrated Kane, who will captain the side at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, knowing that key players will be missing for a match England must win to maintain any hopes of automatic promotion.

When asked if there was one thing that former manager Gareth Southgate instilled that senior players need to ensure is not lost, the Bayern Munich forward told ITV: "I think the joy to play for England. I think he brought that back.

"I think every camp people were excited to come, every camp people wanted to play for England and, yeah, that's the most important thing.

"I think England comes before anything. England comes before club."

Kane went on to admit that it was a "shame" to see so many players pull out ahead of such an important fixture.

"It's a tough period of the season and maybe that's been taken advantage of a little bit," he added.

"I don't really like it if I'm totally honest. I think England comes before anything, any club situation."
