Venue: St Jakob-Park
Manchester City showed their class against FC Basel as they romped to a 4-0 win in the first leg of UEFA Champions League last 16 tie.
The game got off to a quiet start for the visitors, although Basel's Dimitri Oberlin did carve out half a chance as City enjoyed most of the possession.
In the 14th minute, the Citizens took the lead with their first real opening courtesy of a header from Ilkay Gundogan.
The lead was doubled four minutes later as Bernardo Silva sent a fine left-footed volley past Tomas Vaclik after getting on the end of Raheem Sterling's cross, 0-2.
It was 3-0 to Pep Guardiola's men on 23 minutes as Sergio Aguero bagged his 29th goal in all competitions this season with a clinical finish into the bottom corner.
Despite Oberlin's chance in the early stages, Basel failed to threaten the Premier League outfit for the rest of half and went into the break trailing by three goals.
Eight minutes into the second half, Gundogan netted his second and City's fourth with a superb curling into the top corner.
Guardiola opted for a change on 64 minutes, withdrawing Kevin de Bruyne for David Silva.
Gundogan went close to completing his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining but Vaclik produced a superb save to keep out the German's close range strike.
Nevertheless, City managed to see out the remaining stages of the half with relative ease as they take a health four-goal lead into the second leg.
