Result: CSKA Moscow 1-4 Manchester United
Date: 27 September 2017
Venue: VEB Arena
Romelu Lukaku continued his fine form by netting a brace as Manchester United thumped CSKA Moscow 4-1 in their UEFA Champions league group stage clash.
Ander Herrera was brought into the middle of the park, after Maroune Fellaini was ruled out after picking up a knock over the weekend.
The Red Devils broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Lukaku rose above his marker to head home Anthony Martial's cross. United should have doubled their lead in the 13th minute, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan failed to beat Roman Akinfeev from close range. Four minutes later, the visitors were awarded a penalty when Mkhitaryan was brought down. Martial stepped up and made no mistake from the spot. United continued to dominate and they bagged a third goal in the 26th minute when Lukaku bagged his second by turning home Martial's cross. It wasn't always one-way traffic in the first half, as David De Gea produced a number of fine saves including a stop to deny Chalov in the box after 37 minutes. Nevertheless, the score remained 3-0 to the visitors at the halftime break. United picked up from where they left it off in the first half, as they extended their advantage in the 57th minute as Mkhitaryan slotted home from close range, after Akinfeev had saved Martial's strike. With the visitors comfortably leading, Jose Mourinho introduced Matteo Darmian for Ashley Young after 67 minutes. United nearly added a third goal in the 81st minute, but Darmian's close range effort was turned away by Akinfeev. CSKA did bag a consolation goal in the 90th minute as Konstantin Kuchayev found the back of the net with a smart finish, 4-1.
