Inter Milan 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Inter Milan gained a slight advantage in the round of 16 first leg in the UEFA Champions League after edging Atletico Madrid 1-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Atletico welcomed back Antoine Griezmann in the line-up as he partnered with Marcos Llorente upfront and Inter also attacked with two strikers, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez.

The Serie A side were dealt a big blow at the end of the half as striker Marcus Thuram was picked up a knock and was replaced by Marko Arnautovic.

Chances were few and far between in the first stanza and Arnautovic brought the game to life for Inter in the second stanza as he came close twice.

Arnautovic eventually broke the deadlock for the Italian outfit in the last 11 minutes with a strike from a rebound in the box and that was enough to secure the win.

Diego Simeone's charges pushed for an equaliser in the latter stages of the second half, but both Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa failed to profit.

The second-leg is set for 13 March.

PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund could not be separated after a 1-1 draw in the round of 16 first-leg at Philips Stadion.

The two sides were meeting in the competition for the first time since 2002 group stage phase, where Dortmund claimed a 3-1 win in the Netherlands.

Dortmund were boosted by the return of Donyell Malen, who joined Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Niclas Fullkrug and PSV brought back Johan Bakayoko and Hirving Lozano to partner Luuk de Jong up top.

Malen repaid the faith after 24 minutes as he opened the scoring with a deflected shot in the box after Dortmund won the ball high up the pitch.

De Jong levelled matters for PSV 11 minutes into the second stanza with a strike from the penalty spot after a foul in the box by Mats Hummels, although replays showed the defender made contact with the ball first.

The return leg is on 13 March.
