UEFA Champions League Result: Bayern 7-0 Shakhtar Date: 11 March 2015 Venue: Allianz Arena Bayern Munich cruised into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a 7-0 annihilation of Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night. The visitors made the worst possible start to the clash as they were reduced to 10 men in the third minute and gave away a penalty in the process. Olexandr Kucher fouled Mario Gotze in the area and got a straight red card as the Bayern man was through on goal. Thomas Muller stepped up and slotted the spot-kick. The lead was doubled in the 34th minute as the Bavarians stamped their authority on the game. Jerome Boateng bundled the ball over the line after Shakhtar failed to deal with Muller and Lewandowski in the area. It was three nil shortly after the interval as Franck Ribery joined the goalscoring party. A smart one-two between Ribery and Alaba resulted in the French winger curling a sensational strike inside the far post. The fourth arrived only two minutes later as Muller bagged his brace. Ribery was in the thick of it again as he surged down the wing before squaring it. Pyatov got a hand to the ball but it fell favourably for Muller who netted a simple goal. Bayern's goal-scoring exhibition continued just past the hour mark as Holger Badstuber made it 5-0. Rafinha sent in a great cross that Badstuber thumped into the back of the net with a powerful headed effort. Not to be left out, Lewandowski added his name to the scoresheet in the 75th minute. Bastian Schweinsteiger sent a magnificent ball forward from inside his own half and played the striker through on goal. Lewandowski brought it down with a deft touch before beating the keeper at his near post. Gotze added a seventh goal in the 87th minute when Bayern counter-attacked following a Shakhtar corner kick. Boateng made a piercing run down the wing before picking out his team-mate who provided the finish. The German outfit claimed a 6-0 aggregate victory after playing out a goalless draw at Shakhtar in the first leg of the last-16 tie.
