Result: Real Madrid 4-2 Bayern Munich (6-3 on aggregate)

Date: 18 April 2017

Venue: Santiago Bernabeu

Cristiano Ronaldo netted a hat-trick to help Real Madrid advance to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals with a 6-3 aggregate win over Bayern Munich.

The La Liga giants came into the encounter with a slender lead, after winning the first leg 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.

The visitors enjoyed an encouraging start in the opening 15 minutes with Arjen Robben and Arturo Vidal going close to breaking the deadlock.

Los Blancos nearly went ahead after 26 minutes as Dani Carvajal collected a pass from Ronaldo, before drilling a low effort inches wide of the upright from 25-yards out.

The hosts went even closer two minutes later when Sergio Ramos' low strike was cleared off the line by Jerome Boateng.

Zinedine Zidane's charges ended the first half the stronger of the two sides, although the score remained goalless as the sides entered the break.

However, Bayern were awarded a penalty five minutes into the second half when Robben was brought down by Casemiro. Robert Lewandowski stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, 1-0.

Los Blancos were finding it tough to cope with Bayern in the second half and were restricted to attacking on the counter.

With the visitors needing another, Carlo Ancelotti introduced Douglas Costa for Franck Ribery, while Isco made way for Lucas Vazquez.

However, Los Blancos leveled matters in the 75th minute as Casemiro picked out Ronaldo, who headed into the far corner.

Ancelotti's charges hit back two minutes as confusion in the Real box led to Sergio Ramos poking the ball into his own net to make it 3-3 on aggregate.

Bayern were then reduced to 10 men after 84 minutes when Arturo Vidal was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The match was forced into extra-time after neither side could get another goal in the closing stages of the second half.

Ronaldo then leveled matters on the night in the 105th minute as Ramos did well to pick out the Portugese, who controlled well and volleyed home from 12-yards out to make it 4-3 on aggregate.

Ronaldo then completed his hat-trick two minutes later with a simple tap-in from close range, after a fine solo run from Marcelo.

Marcos Asensio the grabbed Real's fourth goal in the 112th minute as skipped past two markers before firing the ball into the far corner to seal the win,
