UCL Match Report: Borussia Monchengladbach 1-2 Manchester City 30 September 2015

Sergio Aguero scored a late penalty to hand Manchester City a 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia Park on Tuesday night.

City nearly opened the scoring after just four minutes but Yann Sommer pulled off a superb save at his near post to deny Sergio Aguero from point-blank range.

Gladbach went close with a chance of their own in the ninth minute when Hermann broke free down the left, however the midfielder dragged his effort inches wide of the upright.

The home side were then awarded a penalty in the 19th minute when Raffael had been brought down by Nicolas Otamendi, however the Brazilian stepped but had his penalty saved by Joe Hart.

Augero was then was presented with a chance seconds later when he was played through on goal, however the Argentine fired horribly wide with only Sommer to beat.

Manuel Pellegrini decided to change things up at the start of the second half, as he brought off Yaya Toure and introduced Fernandao.

However, Gladbach nearly opened the scoring in the 47th minute when Raffael was played through on goal, but Hart was on hand to deny the Brazilian with a fine save.

The home side eventually took the lead in the 54th minute when Lars Stindel turn home Julian Korb's cross with a clinical finish from 12-yards out.

City, however, leveled matters in the 65th via Otamendi's deflected volley, after Martin Demichelis's volley was cleared off the line by the Gladbach defence.

Pellegrini's men nearly went ahead in the 77th minute when Kevin De Bruyne teed up Fernandinho 25-yards out bu the Brazilian's effort sailed just over the crossbar.

Raheem Sterling came close to giving City the lead in the 83rd minute when he rose well to meet Jesus Navas's cross, however the winger failed to direct his header on target.

City were then awarded a penalty in the 90th minute, after Aguero had been brought down in the box and the Argentine stepped up to convert the penalty and seal the win.
