UEFA Champions League
Result: Astana 0-0 Atletico Madrid
Date: 03 November 2015
Venue: Astana Arena
Atletico Madrid moved top of Group C despite being held to a goalless draw by FC Astana in their UEFA Champions League tie.
Atletico goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, came to Atletico's rescue after just seven minutes as he came rushing off his line to deny Shomko.
Shomko popped up with a fine defensive effort a few minutes later, as he put in a fine block to deny Tiago a strike at goal from 10-yards out.
The Spanish outfit went close to breaking the deadlock in 19th minute when Juanfran picked out Antoine Griezmann in the box but the Frenchman's header was deflected inches wide of the upright.
Juanfran continued to be a threat with his long passes, as he played Fernando Torres through on goal with a superb pass from 50-yards out, however the striker placed his effort wide of the post.
Atletico went even closer on the stroke of halftime, as Koke's effort from distance rattled the crossbar with Astana goalkeeper, Nenad Eric, well beaten.
Astana nearly broke the deadlock shortly after the halftime break when Kabananga teed up Shomko, who forced Oblak into a good save.
The visitors pushed for an opener and were nearly rewarded in the 56th minute when Koke picked out Diego Godin in the box but the defender's header was saved by Eric.
Diego Simeone opted to change things in the attack and introduced Jackson Martinez for Torres after the hour-mark.
Griezmann squandered a chance to hand Atletico the lead in the 78th minute, as he collected a fine pass from Gabi, before he skewed his effort wide of the target from close range.
Atletico piled on the pressure in the final 10 minutes and they should have wrapped up the win in the 84th minute but Ferreira Carrasco scuffed his effort in the area.
The point sees Atletico jump into top spot, while Astana pick up their first point of the campaign.
