Paris Saint Germain Boss Takes A Swipe At Referee After Real Madrid Defeat

Paris Saint Germain Boss Takes A Swipe At Referee After Real Madrid Defeat

Paris Saint Germain boss Unai Emery has taken a swipe at Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi after his side's 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Zidane On Ronaldo's Match Winning Performance

France international Adrien Rabiot put the Ligue 1 side in the lead after 33 minutes, but the home side was awarded a controversial penalty on the stroke of half-time which Cristiano Ronaldo put away.

After the game, Emery voiced his unhappiness with the referee's inconsistencies throughout the game as he felt that PSG too deserved to be awarded a spot kick.

"It was a pity we didn't go into the break with the lead but these small actions from the referees did not help us," Emery said, as quoted by Sport English.

"If you blow for the first penalty you have to blow for handball (by Sergio Ramos in the box when the ball hit his arm) too."

The former Sevilla manager also believed that there was a foul on centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, which lead to Ronaldo's second goal of the night.

"We were playing with the aim of scoring a second, we found another refereeing action, a possible foul before the 2-1," Emery added.

"If the referee was more balanced with both teams we would have been close to a draw or even a victory.

"We leave with the idea that we played a great game, but we got a bad result. Playing like this we can come back, but if the refereeing decisions continue like this, it will be harder."

Ronaldo Beats Messi To Another UCL Record

The French outfit trail Los Blancos by two goals and the second leg of the tie will be played on the 6 March at the Parc des Princes.
