Messi, who was one goal behind Cristiano Ronaldo, scored a brace last night as the Catalans beat Ajax Amsterdam 2-0 in Amsterdam.
"It's a happy moment for me," he told reporters.
"I think it's great but the most important thing was to get the three points so that we will be able to qualify for the next round. We secured the points, therefore I'm happy.
"I don't remember one goal especially. I always want to score and in the end it's the sum total of them all that I will remember. As I've always said, goals in finals are the best and most powerful memories."
The Argentine, had plenty of good things to say about the young Ajax side that pushed them all the way and felt Barcelona had to dig deep to beat them.
"We played against a team that play good football and they move around a lot. For some time we were under quite some pressure because we were falling back and not mobile enough.
"But we always believed in our chances and I was happy to score. Later we played against ten men, but I still think we played a good match.
"I'm happy to play with (Luis Suárez and Neymar), they fit the philosophy of Barcelona. We're getting to know each other and of course Luis is a class striker and helps us a lot."
Messi will have first crack at beating Raul's all time record on the 25th November, as Barcelona travel to Cyprus to face Apoel Nicosia.
