Messi Causes Stir After Barca's Draw With Inter

Messi Causes Stir After Barca's Draw With Inter

Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi caused a major stir this week after Barcelona suffered a massive setback in their hopes to make it out of their UEFA Champions League group.

The Catalan giants were held to a 3-3 draw at the Camp Nou in Group C on Wednesday night, a result that all but ended the side's chances of qualifying for the round of 16.

Barcelona will need to win their remaining two games in the competition and rely on other results going their way to go through to the knockout stages, with manager Xavi Hernandez admitting that his team does not deserve to progress in the tournament.

The Blaugrana had to come from behind twice to salvage a point in Spain on Wednesday, with Robert Lewandowski scoring both goals in what was a frantic final 10 minutes.

That game, however, was not all that Barcelona fans were frustrated by as some noticed certain activity from Messi in the hours after their clash against Simone Inzaghi's Italian giants.

The 35-year-old "liked" a post on social media made by Inter forward Lautaro Martinez in the wake of their positive result at the Camp Nou, leading to fury in some sections of the Spanish club's fanbase, according to the Metro.

Despite Messi being an international teammate of Martinez's with Argentina, supporters were furious with the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who departed the Blaugrana as a free agent in 2021.

Should Barcelona not make it out of the group stage, it will be the second consecutive campaign in which they failed to do so following Messi's exit after 16 years in their first team.

Barca's next match is another much-anticipated encounter as they go up against bitter rivals Real Madrid in the latest instalment of ElClasico.
