NEW: Man Utd 'Make' Shock Ferguson Decision

NEW: Man Utd 'Make' Shock Ferguson Decision

Manchester United will reportedly stop paying Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of this season.

Manchester United's new board, in charge of footballing operations, has reportedly made a shock decision regarding Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to The Athletic, the Red Devils have continued their cost-cutting measures by terminating the ex-manager's ambassadorial contract with the club.

The legendary Scotsman retired from his role as manager in 2013, but has continued his relationship with United behind the scenes.

This latest move from the club means Ferguson, 82, will no longer be on the payroll following a discussion with INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week.

Ferguson was believed to be on a £2.6 million (R59.9 million) per year deal at the 20-time English champions spanning the course of a decade.

The former manager will reportedly still be allowed to attend games and will remain a non-executive director on the ceremonial board.

It is understood that Ferguson will stop being paid by the club at the end of this season.

The iconic tactician is still widely regarded as one of the best of all time following his achievements at United between 1986 and 2013.

Ferguson led the Red Devils to an incredible 13 Premier League titles, while he also took United to four UEFA Champions League finals, winning two of them.
