The Egyptian side will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg on Saturday 19 April and coach Koller has a selection issue to manage.
The Swiss coach will reportedly be without two left-backs as 21-year-old Karim El Debes and Morrocan international Yahya Attiat Allah are set for a spell on the sidelines with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.
Shobeir offered advice to Koller and said the manager needed to make a call over whether experienced Tunisian Ali Maâloul or young Egyptian Ahmed Nabil Kouka would start at left-back, Ahly News reported.
"When I asked about Ali Maaloul, they told me he's not 100% fit, but he might travel with the squad," the former Al Ahly goalkeeper said.
The journalist revealed that Kouka is the most likely candidate to fill in at left-back, although it is not his first position, adding that it was a risk to play Maaloul after being absent due to injury.
Ahly News also reported that Shobeir told OnSports FM that Koller needed to be open with players regarding selection.
"I have a point of view, which is that it is important for players to know their status regarding inclusion in the match list before playing against Sundowns," Shobeir said.
The former player said Koller sometimes made last-minute decisions that can leave players feeling frustrated.

"This situation makes some players feel insulted by the Al-Ahly coach, so some players should be informed of their situation early on and have a clear vision," he added.
