Serie A
Result: Juventus 2-1 Bologna
Date: 19 October 2019
Venue: Allianz Stadium
Cristiano Ronaldo continued his fine form on front of goal as Serie A champions Juventus defeated Bologna 2-1 at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.
Ronaldo was honoured with a special shirt before the game after netting his 700th career goal while on duty with Portugal earlier this week.
After a slow start to the encounter, Ronaldo got the breakthrough for the league champions on 19 minutes as the Portuguese forward managed to win possession before rifling the ball into the far corner.
The lead did not last far too long as Bologna were level seven minutes later as Danilo latched onto a header from Ibrahima M'Baye before firing past Gianluigi Buffon with a superb strike.
Juve looked to restore their lead straight away but Alex Sandro saw his long-range effort brilliantly turned away by Bologna shot-stopper Lukasz Skorupski in the 32nd minute.
The visitors had to wait until the second half to re-take the lead as Miralem Pjanic found the back of the net in the 54th minute with a composed finish into the bottom corner.
Chances continued to push for more goals but Skorupski kept Bologna in the contest with a superb double save to keep out Sandro and Gonzalo Higuain after 64 minutes.
With one eye on the UEFA Champions League this week, manager Mauricio Sarri withdrew Adrien Rabiot and Gonzalo Higuain, with Blaise Matuidi and Paulo Dybala brought on as replacements.
In the end though, Bologna were unable to find an second goal in the latter stages of the half as Juve clinch victory to move four points clear of second-place Inter Milan.
