When Mourinho claimed that Carlo Ancelotti would be crazy to leave a club as big as Real Madrid earlier this month, it seemed as though it was one legendary manager lauding the greatness of another all-time great.
However, with UOL recently claiming that the "Special One" is, in fact, interested in the Brazil national team job for himself, a position which has long been touted for Ancelotti, perhaps Mourinho's comments about the fellow ex-Chelsea manager had ulterior motives.
It is believed the 60-year-old went to AS Roma in 2021 with the intention of putting himself in the shop window for Europe's biggest sides, but even after leading the Giallorossi to UEFA Europa Conference League success and a UEFA Europa League final appearance last season, it seems these were not feats deemed good enough for the Setubal native to regain the prominence he once had among Europe's giants.
This was seemingly encapsulated by Paris Saint-Germain's insistence on choosing Luis Enrique over the former FC Porto and Inter Milan boss as their new manager earlier this year.
The same report claims that Mourinho has consequently made the Brazilian Football Confederation aware of his interest in the job as he looks to head a top national team before ultimately considering offers from Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.
