Defending Coppa Italia champions Juventus began the defence of their title with a 2-0 victory over Bologna in the round of 16 on Saturday evening.
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri opted for a changes for the tie as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Alex Sandro were only named on the bench.
The Old Lady broke the deadlock after nine minutes with a close-range finish after the Genoa defence failed to clear their lines from a corner.
It was one-way traffic in the first half, but the only other chance fell to Leonardo Bonucci on 30 minutes but his header was saved by goalkeeper Angelo da Costa.
The visitors had to wait until the 49th minute for the second goal, with 18-year-old Moise Kean turning home Douglas Costa's deflected effort.
Ronaldo was to be introduced after the hour mark, with Kean making for the final 30 minutes of the second half.
The remaining stages of the second half failed to provide any goal-mouth action as both coaches opted to make changes, which disrupted the flow of the game. The Old Lady saw out the remaining stages with relative ease after dominating possession for most of the half.
