Sergio Ramos captained Spain to a comprehensive 4-0 Uefa European Championship qualifier win over Faroe Islands this past weekend, a match that also saw him equal a record belonging to one of his nation's greatest players.

The Real Madrid defender, who became Spain's joint-10th highest goalscorer of all time during their win over Romania on Thursday, added another record to his name on Sunday when he took to the field for La Furia Roja for the 167th time.

In doing so, Ramos equalled former Real teammate Iker Casillas' record for the nation's most-capped player of all time, and is now only 17 caps away from Egypt's Ahmed Hassan's all-time men's record of 184 international caps.

The 33-year-old made his first appearance for Spain in 2005 and, eight years later, became the youngest European player to reach the milestone of 100 international appearances, breaking the record previously held by Germany's Lukas Podolski.

Ramos has been an ever-present for Spain since making his debut, and played a key role in the nation's triumphs at the 2008 and 2012 Uefa European Championships, as well as the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The Los Blancos star will break Casillas' record outright if he features during Spain's next qualifier against Norway on 12 October.
