Real Madrid 'Choose' New Captain

Real Madrid have reportedly decided who their next captain will be.

With Real Madrid's current captain expected to leave the club imminently, the Spanish and European champions have reportedly decided who their next skipper will be.

Los Blancos icon Toni Kroos has already confirmed that he will be retiring from football after the ongoing UEFA European Championship concludes for the Germany national team, but the recently crowned LALIGA champions are believed to also be likely wave goodbye to another club legend.

It is reported that current club captain Nacho Fernandez is set to join newly promoted Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Qadsiah once his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu comes to an end at the end of June.

The Spain international progressed through the club's youth ranks before ultimately becoming a permanent fixture in the first team squad in 2012.

At the beginning of last season, the 34-year-old succeed Karim Benzema as Real captain after the Frenchman also made his way to Saudi Arabia, and now, according to COPE, it is decided that the man to succeed Fernandez as skipper will be legendary midfielder Luka Modric.

Like the versatile defender, the Croat has been part of the Real first team since 2012, and is now expected to lead the record European Cup winners for the 2024/25 campaign.

While the 38-year-old was once an ever-present in the Los Merengues starting XI, this past season the playmaker saw his prominence diminish drastically as he was utilised as a substitute more often.

The same report claims that the fullback duo of Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez will deputise for the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner in the new campaign.
