Though it seemed his intention was always to remain at Los Blancos, it was suggested that the legendary midfielder would continue in Spain amid rumours he had been tempted by a big-money proposal from the Saudi Pro League.
According to AS, Modric will extend his contract at the 14-time European champions until June 2024, while continuing to represent Croatia on the international stage despite almost being 38 years old.
It is thought that the Spanish giants were hoping the ex-Tottenham Hotspur star would decide to call time on his Croatia career, but it is understood that he wants to star at the 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany.
Modric was said to communicate his desire to stay at Real in a meeting with president Florentino Perez in April, after it was claimed that an offer from the Middle East worth €200 million almost turned his head.
High-profile footballers are flocking to Saudi Arabia on lucrative terms ahead of the coming season, with Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante recently joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the Gulf country.
