Last week, the Brazilian FA's president suggested an agreement had been reached with the Italian for 2024, the year his deal in Madrid expires.

Real and Brazil defender Eder Militao later appeared to confirm the story, admitting Ancelotti is excited about managing the Selecao from next year.

According to the Daily Mail, the 14-time European champions have since drawn up a four-man shortlist of ex-players who could succeed the veteran boss at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is claimed that Zinedine Zidane, who has had two recent spells in charge of the club, is being considered once again.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xavi Alonso is another former first-team star on Real's radar, along with legendary ex-striker Raul Gonzalez and current youth team coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

Ancelotti has been massively successful over his two stints at Los Blancos, winning two UEFA Champions League titles.

Zidane, who won three European crowns consecutively, is likely to be president Florentino Perez's preferred option, though it is thought that the Frenchman could still be waiting for the opportunity to replace Didier Deschamps as France manager.
