The 38-year-old, who is holds the record for most international goals for a male footballer with 125, is looking to reach the 1000-mark.

"It will be quite difficult, but it's about my mindset and my motivation. If, physically, my legs treat me as well as I treat them...," Ronaldo told reporters, as per Goal.

"We'll see, these are small steps. To get to 1,000, you first have to get to 900. I think I will get there."

The five-time Ballon d'Or says he still hopes to be at the European Championship next year.

"I hope I will be at Euro 2024 as there is still a lot of time left. I hope I won't have any problem or injury, I hope to play," he added.

"I left Portugal early but it will always be my home. They support me in every stadium in Portugal. The Portuguese must be congratulated too for the reception they gave us and this qualification is also theirs."
