Mbappe 'Reaches' €100m Agreement With PSG

With Kylian Mbappe's future at Paris Saint-Germain still up in the air, the two parties have reportedly reached a €100 million (R2 billion) agreement.

Mbappe already has five goals in three matches in Ligue 1 this season as he looks to further cement himself in the French top flight's history books.

However, just three weeks ago, this was almost not the reality for the 24-year-old as he was still embroiled in a contractual stand-off with the club.

After he told PSG he would not be extending his contract beyond June 2024, Les Parisiens decided that the forward would spend the entirety of the 2023/24 season in the stands, even excluding their talisman from their tour of Asia in pre-season, if they did not sell him in the latest transfer window.

The two parties have since reconciled, though, with Mbappe being reintegrated back into the squad, and while PSG currently still run the risk of potentially losing the France captain for free at the end of the campaign, this may not be as big a detriment to the club following their new gentlemen's agreement with the player, according to L'Equipe.

As per the French publication, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has now agreed to forego a loyalty bonus of between €60 million and €80 million (R1.2 and R1.8 billion) owed to him, which would subsequently save Les Rouge-et-Bleu giants €100 million in total costs.

The same report claims that while new contract negotiations are yet to formally begin, PSG deem this gentlemen's agreement adequate for them to let Mbappe leave for free at the end of the ongoing season because the transfer fee they were asking for was likely to be in the region of the loyalty bonuses owed to the Bondy native.
