Marca Awards Winners Revealed, Lionel Messi Snubbed

Alfredo di Stefano award: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

Spanish publication Marca held its annual awards ceremony on Monday night, and Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi to the main accolade.

Ronaldo won the famous Alfredo di Stefano award after being named Player of the 2015/16 Season by the Spanish publication, beating his long-standing rival Messi to second place.

It is the fourth time that the Portuguese won the award, lifting it in four out of the five last seasons, while Messi won the prize in 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2014/15.

Remember Antoine Griezmann was named the official Player of the Season by La Liga during a recent awards ceremony.

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez won the famous Pichichi award for the Best Goalscorer in La Liga after netting 40 goals in just 35 league games. Ronaldo scored 35 last season, while Messi finished in third with 26 goals.

However, the Uruguayan was not present at the awards ceremony due to traveling to his national team ahead of the international break.

Athletic Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz won the the Telmo Zarra trophy for the best goalscorer born in Spain after netting 20 goals in 34 games.

Atletico Madrid won two awards, while Ronaldo teammate Alvaro Morata was also among the awarded stars and La Liga president Javier Tebas won the Fair Play award.
