FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has fallen off the pace compared to where he was at this time in his world-record year, where he ended with 91 goals to his name in 2012.

The Argentine has had a spectacular start to 2015, and was even ahead of his world record at the beginning of February.

However, his recent blanks in the Champions League, El Clasico and Copa del Rey, as well as his inability to play for Argentina, means he is now 10 goals behind the pace that took him to the 91 goals record.

Back in 2012, he started the year with seven goals in January, while he had scored eight this year. After February 2012, he was on a tally of 17 goals, while this time around he fell two goals of the pace with a total of 15 after February 2015.

March 2012 was one of the best months of his career, and the 13 goals boosted his tally to 30 for the year. But following a relatively slow March in 2015 with only five La Liga goals, Messi now sits 10 goals behind his world-record year.

The Argentine has scored 17 La Liga goals already and three further in the Copa del Rey since the turn of the year.

Back in 2012, he had scored 19 La Liga goals, two in the Copa del Rey, six in the Champions League and three for Argentina.

The 27-year-old is still the best goal-scorer since the turn of the year, but it seems he might struggle to reach his own heights.
