Lionel Messi Has Almost Triple As Many Trophies As Cristiano Ronaldo

FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has won almost triple as many trophies as Cristiano Ronaldo has since the Portuguese joined Real Madrid.

Ronaldo made his first team debut for Sporting Lisbon in 2002 and won his first trophy, with Manchester United, in 2004.

He added another eight titles until 2009, when he left the Red Devils to join Los Blancos – by then he had collected nine trophies, three more than Messi at the time.

The Argentine made his debut for Barcelona in 2004 and won his first title at the end of the 2004/05 campaign. However, the picture has completely changed since Ronaldo joined Messi in Spain.

So far, the 31-year-old has lifted just seven trophies since his then world-record move to the Santiago Bernabeu – one La Liga, two Copa del Reys, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup and one Spanish Super Cup.

In comparison, Messi has added an unbelievable 20 titles to his trophy cabinet during the same period. The 28-year-old has won five La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys, two Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups and four Spanish Super Cups since 2009.

Overall, the count stands at 28 trophies for Messi and 17 for Ronaldo, which means the Portuguese almost has to add this season's Champions League title to his trophy cabinet, or risk falling even further behind.

If Ronaldo and Real fail to beat Atletico Madrid in the final on the weekend, it would be their second consecutive season without a major trophy.

However, should Los Blancos claim the prestigious trophy, they would immediately qualify for the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, which would give Ronaldo opportunities to close the gap on his longstanding rival.
