Although Messi is the only active player among the all-time top 10 scorers of the Copa del Rey, he is still far behind the leader Telmo Zarra, who scored 81 times in the competition for Athletic Bilbao.
Second to Zarra is former Barca and Real forward Josep Samitier with 70 goals, followed by Guillermo Gorostiza with 62 strikes, and Quini with 55.
Former Valencia attacker Edmundo Suarez struck 51 times in the competition for Los Che, while Los Blancos legend Ferenc Puskas and Barca icon Laszlo Kubala hit the back of the net on 49 occasions each in the tournament.
In at eighth is former Real talisman Santillana with 48 Copa goals, followed by the aforementioned Messi on 47 strikes – the same number of strikes Cesar Rodriguez Alvarez scored in the competition.

Ronaldo, who has often been rested for Copa del Rey matches in recent seasons, has scored just 22 times in the tournament, trailing his Blaugrana rival by 25 strikes.
