FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has once again widened the gap when it comes to silverware lifted by himself and his longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo had closed in on the Argentine's trophy haul after winning four trophies – namely the UEFA Super Cup, the Supercopa de Espana, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Champions League – last season.
Messi, meanwhile, added just two trophies in 2017/18, the Copa del Rey and the LaLiga title. However, the FC Barcelona superstar claimed the 33rd piece of silverware of his career on the weekend after leading his side to this season's Supercopa de Espana, becoming the most decorated player in Barcelona history in the process.
Overall, the Argentine has now lifted nine La Liga titles, eight Supercopa de Espanas, six Copa del Reys, four Champions League trophies, three FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.
Unlike Ronaldo, though, the Argentina captain is yet to win a senior trophy with his national team, but did claim one U20 FIFA World Cup as well as an Olympic gold medal. However, they do not count as trophies in his senior career.
The Portugal captain, meanwhile, left Real Madrid after adding 16 trophies in nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu to his cabinet. The 33-year-old won four UEFA Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, two Spanish Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA European Super Cups during his time in Spain.
He also lifted 10 trophies during his six-year stint with Manchester United – one Champions League trophy, three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two English League Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup and two FA Community Shields.
In addition, Ronaldo won the Portuguese Super Cup early in his career with Sporting Lisbon, despite only sitting on the bench in 2002, as well as the UEFA European Championship title with Portugal in 2016.

While Messi could potentially add another three titles – namely LaLiga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League – with Barca this season, Ronaldo still has a chance to claim four trophies with his new side Juventus, who will fight for the Serie A title, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana and their first Champions League trophy since 1996.
