Atletico clinched their first league title since 1996 in the 2013/2014 campaign but relinquished their crown to Barcelona this season.
The Catalan giants celebrated their 23rd league title after beating Simeone's side last week, while Real currently lead the pack with 32 La Liga titles.
"I've always looked for the essence of the club, to belong here," Simeone told Onda Cero.
"If you understand where you are, you'll get more. It's not easy to play for Atletico. Talent is not enough, the bar is very high. Messi and Ronaldo will not last for 100 years, at some points we'll get closer.
"For Altetico to keep wining we can only do one thing - work and fight."
The Argentine added that he wasn't pleased with the Los Blancos manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has been treated following their disappointing campaign.
"The way he (Ancelotti) is being judged makes me angry because when you win, you win as one," he added.
