The four-year-old met Messi backstage at the Ballon d'Or ceremony minutes before the event and the Argentine greeted him warmly.
"How are you doing? How's it all going, good?," the Barcelona star said, as quoted by Marca.
Cristiano Junior didn't respond, but his father told Messi, "He watches a video online, of all of us, and he talks about you."
"And now you've gone shy?," Messi joked as the boy ran back to his father.
For a few moments it seemed as the rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo is just something created by the media and it showed huge respect between the two superstars.
Ronaldo's son later went on the stage after his father had received his third Ballon d'Or award, while the Real Madrid star told FIFA how happy Cristiano Junior makes him.
"The birth of Cristiano brought more joy and tranquillity to my life. It's not that I had none before, but it's been an important factor," he told FIFA.com.
"The fact that he can share these moments I'm having fills me with pride, because he'll grow up and know -in fact since last year he already understands- who his dad is: a professional footballer with Real Madrid.
"He already knows a lot about football: how it works, what the main titles are, why his dad is here trying to win the Ballon d'Or. He makes me very happy as he's my only child."
