Many remember Cristiano Ronaldo's chat with Matthijs de Ligt when he was still heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona, which left the 19-year-old "shocked" – the Portuguese has now revealed the truth about their talk.

The Portugal captain approached the Netherlands defender after the Uefa Nations League final at a time when many thought De Ligt would join Barca.
The 19-year-old has since signed for Juventus in a move worth €75 million (R1.2 billion) plus add-ons, and has revealed that Ronaldo asked him to join him at the Bianconeri.
Many have since suggested Ronaldo played a major role in De Ligt choosing the Serie A giants over Barcelona, but the 34-year-old downplayed the talk this week.

"I don't think so. I like the question because after the Nations League, I made a comment as a footballer, as everyone does," he told Marca at the recent awards gala.
"It's normal because he's 19. It was said as a joke, but the truth is that I'm glad he's with us."
De Ligt ended up joining Juventus on 18 July, leaving Ajax Amsterdam after making 117 senior appearances for the Dutch side.
