Cristiano Ronaldo: My Two Idols Growing Up Were...

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who is idolised all around the world by young aspiring footballers, has now revealed which two players he grew up admiring.

Ronaldo Reveals The Age He Would Like To Retire

The 36-year-old is widely considered as one of the greatest players of all time as he holds a number of incredible goalscoring records, having played in Portugal, England, Spain and Italy, and won a host of team and individual prizes.

While he is held to a standard that is rarely met, it is perhaps important to remember that even he drew inspiration from somewhere. In his case, it was Brazil legends Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho.

In a recent interview, he named the two Brazil icons as the players he idolised as a young footballer, but did not want to be made to choose between them.

"I don't like comparisons," he told ESPN Brasil.

"I prefer to say that the two (Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho) left their legacy, their history. I can say, by facts, that I won more individual titles than they did, but both won World Cups.

"I sympathise a lot with them. I grew up watching them both play. Saying who is the best, who is second, is not the most important thing. I prefer to say that they are idols and left a beautiful history in football."

Here is where Ronaldo ranks among the highest-paid players at United this season:

Ronaldo also touched on the struggles United are currently experiencing, insisting it is important that his colleagues find the right mentality.

"I say we have a long way to improve because, for me, the most important thing is the mentality. To look at yourself and say, 'I can do better,'" he added.

"For you to be professional, help the team, the right mentality, self-taught and positive.

"All these details depend on you, not the coaches, the fans or the press. If you are proud of yourself and you have dignity, you have to do it much more."
