The Portuguese netted 10 goals for Real Madrid, but he has to share the trophy with FC Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Neymar.

While Messi missed the opportunity to go clear of Ronaldo by drawing a blank in the Champions League final, Neymar's last-gasp goal drew him level with the two superstars.

Ronaldo has now been crowned the competition's top goal-scorer for a fourth time, after already winning it in 2007/08, 2012/13 and 2013/14.

Messi, though, holds the record for most Champions League goal-scoring titles after extending his tally to five. He was the competition's most prolific striker in 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 previously.

Neymar, meanwhile, won his first Golden Boot and his injury time strike ensured that he became the first player since Kaka in 2006/07 to break the Ronaldo-Messi supremacy.

However, Ronaldo and Messi still jointly lead the competition's all-time ranking, after taking their tally to 77 goals this season.

With his 17 strikes last season, Ronaldo set the record for the most goals in a single Champions League campaign.

Overall the Portuguese has netted 39 goals in the past three years, while Messi follows with 26 strikes.
