Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has revealed that an upset Lionel Messi refused to swap shirts with him last week.
The 19-year-old, who was born to Liberian parents in a refugee camp in Ghana but moved to Canada at the age of five, is experiencing an incredible campaign, having helped the Bavarians qualify for their first UEFA Champions League final since 2013.
Davies was asked after his side's 3-0 win over Olympique Lyon if Messi swapped shirts with him after he marked his idol in the 8-2 humiliation of FC Barcelona.
"But I think he was still a little bit upset.
"Next time maybe."
UEFA's health and safety measures currently advise players not to swap shirts, but Neymar exchanged his jersey with Marcel Halstenberg after their Champions League semi-final.
Ahead of that quarter-final clash with Barcelona, Davies had explained that it would feel a bit surreal facing Messi after studying him when he was younger.
"But for me, it's just playing my game, changing nothing on my side and just hopefully doing my best against him.
"We know that he's a great player – we're not going to take that away from him – so the best you can do is try, I guess."
Davies and his Bayern side will be hoping to lift their sixth Champions League trophy when they face Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday's final.
